Hugo Castillo’s review published on Letterboxd:
This was incredible. I was worried the triptych format would have left me feeling wanting more from each third, but each following segment pushes you straight into the next with no time to think that you just go with its flow. Really effective.
Loved how the camera, or more specifically, the lens was used throughout the film. Shallow depth of field is used all the time, but not as impactful as it is here in Moonlight. Just like staring at the face of the moon, its refracted light causing the surroundings to become blurred, lost in the haze, the camera here needs only their faces to show what it wants to say, everything else is irrelevant.
