Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl ★★★★★

(Short Review)

"She's safe, just like I promised. She's all set to marry Norrington, just like she promised. And you get to die for her, just like you promised. So we're all men of our word really... except for, of course, Elizabeth, who is in fact, a woman."

I want to thank director Gore Verbinski and actor Johnny Depp for creating one of the greatest characters ever put on film. Captain Jack Sparrow is one of my favorite characters in a movie. He’s incredibly funny, a great negotiator (somewhat), and I love how he uses his wits to have people fight for him.
This is far better than it should have been. It could have gone down being just a mess of a film. Instead it ended up being a really fun movie filled with adventure, action, memorable characters, and high quality art direction.
There’s also the score to consider. My god. Hans Zimmer scores the living shit out of this. I’ll say it right here and now: this is one of my all-time favorite scores from a movie. Every time I listen to it I just want to rock out. I wish I could listen to this live. That would be epic.

I feel like Gore Verbinski had a vision for this movie. I think his idea for what this movie should be really came to life. There a couple nitpicks I have with some outdated visuals but for the most part they hold pretty well. There’s a good chance I’m really overrating this movie but I can’t help it. I get so happy whenever I watch these movies. I honestly wish I saw this in the theater when it came out.

This will always be a favorite of mine. In this time period, I would most certainly be a pirate.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.

"This is the day you will always remember as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow!"

10/10 (A+).
