Serge The Movie Guy’s review published on Letterboxd:
4 Year Anniversary.
“He knows the mountain’s not passable. He’s come to die.”
4 year anniversary of what still remains to be one of the most controversial comic book/superhero movie of the last decade. At this point however, Joker might take number 1 spot.
Within recent years I’ve been expanding my taste more for more foreign films, Art House pieces, character driven stories, some oldies classics, and Anime whenever I can. I still watch all the comic book movies that come out every year.
Off the top of my head, the film’s I’ve watched the most, or have thought back to for filmmaking inspirations, only a handful of these are comic book films.
They include: Batman v Superman, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Watchmen, Logan, Man of Steel, and Joker (random order).
THESE ARE NOT THE ONLY COMIC BOOK FILMS I LOVE. This is just showing the ones I think of the most.
For one reason or another, these have made an impression on me.
For better or worse, Snyder went all in on this. For better or worse, the themes of fear through the media is clear and important message. For better or worse, the choice for this film to be more abstract than be family appropriate was a bold swing. For better worse, this is the most non superhero that “superheroes” have been since Watchmen.
For better or worse, it’s a Zack Snyder film.
Take that as you will.
I hope everyone’s doing okay with whatever quarantine situation you’re facing.
We’re in this together.
