It was a perfect day…and all I could think about was how much I wanted to cut you all open and climb inside your bodies to stay one happy family.”

Evil Dead Rise is a worthwhile, extremely bloody, locked-room single location addition to the always entertaining Evil Dead franchise. Summoned to life through newcomer Lee Cronin and company, Rise does quite a great job of showcasing the Irish filmmaker’s potential and soon to be called up rise to A24. As…

It’s just uh…He works so hard for everyone but himself, I see how unhappy he is.”

Does an excellent job of depicting the minutiae of how one event regardless of how small or large, can truly ripple into a vastly layered spiral that affects myriads of players. Fantastic primarily all Asian ensemble cast (that manages to perfectly weave in societal issues and struggles with racism without being overbearing or cringey), with Steven Yeun and Ali Wong having some terrific chemistry.…

Your father completed inside of me.”

Ari Aster’s boldest, most original, most grandiose, yet worst film thus far. The A24 arthouse version of 40 Year Old Virgin: What No Pussy Does to a Mf meets Her’s spiritual sequel: Him. Phoenix is good as usual—giving off a strong Ignatius J. Reilly vibe à la A Confederacy of Dunces—but I just feel like Aster got a little too much liberty with the budget and scope of the film, that I was already gradually…

Average by the numbers DC animated entry that doesn’t really bring anything new or creative to the table. Not bad per se, but just average. It takes a while for the animation to settle in (not a big fan of this CG), as well as for the story to get going—expectedly only picks up once Batman shows up.

PS: Big OG fan of all the Critical Role squad, but Grog as Superman just didn’t match in my head.

"Tomorrow you'll know I wasn't kidding, and you'll think I was crazy. But I figured it this way: better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime!"

Oh, I'm sorry. My apologies, that's from the wrong film. Here we go, I think it's this one:

"All the animals come out at night - whores, skunk pussies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, venal. Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets". …

"A film is - or should be - more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what's behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later." - Stanley Kubrick

This quote from one of the GOATs of cinema really came to mind while experiencing this soon to flop excellent poetic space odyssey. And I make it a point of importance to use the word "odyssey", not because of the obvious comparisons…
