Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ★★★½

My first thought walking out of Shang-Chi  is genuinely “holy fuck Tony Leung 🥵” No exaggeration, he brings to life a Top 5 MCU villain (hell maybe even character). Such a layered, compelling, sympathetic character. His performance is what I’ll be thinking about for a LONG time.

The film as a whole I really dug! The way Cretton explores father son relationships, uses vignettes, & isn’t afraid to get WEIRD in the back half reminded me A LOT of Man of Steel. It’s a clunky ride, but damn I’ll take these big swings w/compelling characters & things to say ANY DAY.

As everyone’s been saying, the fights are superb, incredibly staged & executed. You feel every punch & Cretton wisely utilizes the action to drive character. With 1 action scene we understand exactly who Shang-Chi is & the extent of his abilities. Very impressive.
