Griffin Schiller’s review published on Letterboxd:
A masterpiece. One of the greatest television series I’ve ever watched.
Currently sitting here stunned into silence. A sobering, yet healing meditation of not just Catholicism, but faith. The monologues, the sermons, purest emotions, Hamish Linklater; horrifying & riveting. Thank you Mike Flanagan. I and so many other truly needed this ❤️
There are lines & images in this series that quite frankly may stick with me forever. So difficult to create a nuanced critique of institutionalized religion w/out coming off as “anti-religion” & yet Flanagan EXPERTLY threads the needle. Balanced, honest, human.
Could sing the praises of Linklater all day & by god he better get Emmy love. But Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, & Zach Gilford FLOORED me. I mean these are some of the best performances I’ve seen all year.Rahul’s Sheriff especially was so needed & brought together the universality of everything. Every time he spoke it was hard truth and the voice of reason. My favorite character.
Midnight Mass solidifies the fact that there’s simply no one else working in horror who’s as masterful as Mike Flanagan.
