Kiki's Delivery Service

Kiki's Delivery Service ★★★★

I don't think I appreciated Kiki's Delivery Service enough as a kid. I always saw this film as the one where every kid seemed to draw inspiration from for Halloween, either as Kiki alone or on rare occasions had a friend to dress up as Jiji too. Kiki's Delivery Service addresses complex feelings/conditions like burnout and depression in such a gentle way. Using Jiji, Miyazaki crafts a friend for Kiki, much like a stuffed animal is to a child and uses their communication channel to represent the stages of growing up, but most importantly striking a good work-life balance. Kiki's Delivery Service is the perfect film to send off or remind fellow college students or people in their mid-20s to be mindful of how they should spend that stage of their lives (to hopefully find the magic again!).
