i'm all for analysis, but i don't think blade runner has a terribly compelling hypothesis on what it means to be human. that’s fine. there is only so much sci-fi can say on the topic. however, i wish there was an emotional tether for me to grab onto. no matter how good the world-building is, i can’t bring myself to love this and that’s okay.
(also, this film was discussed in an asian american studies class i took around three years ago about the portrayal of asians in film. obviously, i hadn't seen the film back then, so i didn't have any opinion on the matter, but that's something i need to sit with now. that scene doesn't age well either with the lens we have in today's time.)
