Grant Keegan’s review published on Letterboxd:
Judas and the Black Messiah is a powerful and revealing story about the tensions between the Chicago police department and the Black Panther Party. It shows what lead to revolutionary Fred Hampton's assassination, and sheds a lot of light on the unethical practices of the FBI and the police forces.
I really enjoy historical and political films like this one, because they give a clear and factual perspective on events with the benefit of retrospect. Judas and the Black Messiah is no exception, it had a lot interesting comentary. I was shocked to see how some events went down, but I also liked comparing the film to the historical era it was in, as well as the political climate.
The movie itself is great, although in some parts I couldn't understand what was going on and had to read the plot to catch up again. Daniel Kaluuya's performance was amazing and I hope this film gets a lot of praise at the Academy Awards.
Final Score: 72/100
