please, sir, i want some more [dickens adaptations]

we are overdue for “hard times” (1854)

    rankings:

    — “david copperfield” (1850) is second-tier dickens novel tbh. (hard times, bleak house, a christmas carol, and great expectations are top shelf)

    — this movie is a top-tier dickens adaptation (it sits just under the david lean movies and the 2005 bleak house series)

    — this movie is a lower-tier iannucci work (but that said, it’s nearly just as good as anything released in 2020)

I find Lean’s Dickens movies more enjoyable

This is really pretty, especially if you like emo boys with eye-liner.

Damning portrayal of imperialism and hypocrisy

But watch “Letters from Baghdad” (2016) instead

The thing I remember from watching this movie as a kid: rooms with high ceilings and slow rotating fans
