This movie doesn’t work. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad.

    ★★

There’s zero economic realism here for a movie set in a flooded Miami with stark class divisions. And too much sloppy dualism between lived materiality and virtual mental projections—this singularity stuff should be a tired ontological fallacy by now. The noir dialogue feels like the creator’s never seen a noir (no sexiness, no cool, no bite). Otherwise, I loved it.

We need more flooded-future noir and less people in decompression tanks experiencing virtual worlds. The way this generation of sci-fi grifters plays on this disembodied metaverse simulation nonsense furthers the Zuckerberg Musk agenda

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Wait. What? Easily one of the least satisfying endings I’ve ever experienced. More over since learning the ending is not historically accurate. I was like “Did Tom really read all 5k names or just a few hundred and how long did that take him?” But it didn’t even happen like that.

Thematically, this movie seemed to want to make me very angry (and I certainly felt that) but I’m not sure which direction to direct that anger. But the movie…

    Incredible cast. Dumb ending.

    ★★

this movie is a failure in the same way the last season of game of thrones is a failure.

i don't love this movie. but i'm not above it.

it leans on music too much.

it's such an overstuffed mess. it's almost exciting.

inconsistencies with the book that drove me insane: ozymandias isn't as easily recognizable as the bad guy in the graphic novel and making him so clearly a bad guy from the get-go makes the entire story less…
