Goremaster’s review published on Letterboxd:
Forget the second one. This is the real sequel to Wes Craven's classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street".
Along with the original this is the high point of the series. Wes Craven, who hasn't produced the second, returns here as a producer and screenwriter. The characters of Heather Langekamp (Nancy) and John Saxon (her Sheriff father) also return. Several known actors on early career are in this film: Patricia Arquette as Kristen; Jennifer Rubin as Tracy and Lawrence Fishburne - that here was still called Larry Fishburne - as nurse Max. The special effects, courtesy of Kevin Yagher, were improved in amount and quality.
The fx extravaganza were so successfully that from this episode on it became a trademark of the franchise.
It's in this movie that we finally know the true origin of Freddy Krueger.
