Trudie’s review published on Letterboxd:
Thought the first half of this was really sweet and had lots of potential but it drives itself into a dead end of nostalgia by the closing of the film.
Carrie Coon and Mckenna Grace, MVPs, obviously.
Don't care much either way for the original, so I don't have much of a standard. I liked the — mostly (a couple of jokes were reminiscent of the worst qualities of the original) — wholesome family vibe and the personal stakes.
Setting was refreshing and thought the film looked nice and had a lived in feel. Cool props.
Some of it — the older kids stuff and the third act — just didn't work for me but I appreciated most of the movie and maybe it'll grow on me.
