Surprisingly great- it hold up to all the positive buzz I had heard. James Wan's camera makes this place feel as much like a "real haunted house" or "true story" as possible. The camera constantly searches around the house, most of the time finding nothing, until it does- and then the tension arrives in exciting ways we wouldn't expect. A flashbulb camera suddenly going off, or a sudden scary noise that happens offscreen when we're preparing ourselves to witness something visually alarming instead. Basically, while you're watching this, you really believe that this could happen. Now that's scary. It's almost like a feature length film of "real ghost hunters" or something.
Just all around, great horror movie, and a miracle for the mainstream.
