uhhh a few notes since this list has reached a MUCH wider audience than i was expecting:
-wlw = an umbrella term referring to lesbian, bi, pan, and queer women
-i said “not sad” endings rather than happy endings for a reason. in my personal opinion none of these films end sadly. i also don’t think a couple necessarily has to end up together for the ending to be happy, depending on the movie. but several people have commented in particular that they think Lovesong, Cloudburst, and All About My Mother are sad, so keep that in mind.
-“why isn’t x movie on the list?”

there are three possibilities:
1) i haven’t heard of it, in which case thanks for the suggestion- i’m trying to add every suggestion i get
2) it is on the list, and you missed it- in particular several of the foreign films have posters with only their English title which has caused some confusion
3) it’s set in the past, and is therefore on my list of wlw period films
