The whole idea behind this film is ridiculous. With that said, I appreciate that they fully committed to it and let it be ridiculous. You don’t need to try to make a gritty realistic movie about a giant ape that terrorizes scientists and soldiers on a remote island. I can respect them for going full blown B-movie.
Brie Larson is great to look at but there’s nothing to her character. There’s really nothing to any of the characters. They’re all bland and forgettable. Sam Jackson stands out because he’s Sam Jackson. And John C. Reilly was definitely the highlight of the movie. He was great.
The Vietnam-era soundtrack was great as well. But besides that, everything else was ‘meh.’
