A relatively simple story through a high fantasy and whimsical telling set in 14th century times. Beautiful imagery, scenery, use of colors and natural light. Lots of symbolism, hidden themes and recurring archetypes; color symbolism, magic, fox, the green sash, heroism, courage. I feel like there’s a lot to absorb. Beautifully shot film, great score, entertaining and moody meditation on our thoughts on living a life we deem honorable. Amazing acting and Dev Patel is a fucking babe
Okay, listen here. Midsommer I don’t really consider a horror movie at alllll. More of a psychological drama/ coming of age. Maybe bc it was the summer after my relationship with a shit head, but I deeply felt the emotions Aster was portraying. I felt his pain that he poured in from crushing disappointment after another. The characters, to me, were more caricature of horrible/best personality traits in the form of people. I know some folks say the characters don’t seem believable. The film was really a meditation for him as an artist working out their torment. It’s Bergmanesque gut punch to the feelings.
