  Men in Black 1997

  ★★★★½ Rewatched 30 May 2023

  I was channel surfing in the hotel and they were showing Men in Black II and the TV had true motion on. It made it even worse but it made me nostalgic for the original.

  I love this film. I noticed the writer wrote Bill and Ted, Super Mario Bros, and Charlie’s Angels too. Those films all have a similar vibe to Men in Black that I enjoy.

  Also it’s based on a Marvel comic so, for me, ranks as one of the best Marvel films. And it runs to a tight 90 mins - something many recent Marvel films could learn from.

  Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania 2023

  ★ Watched 25 May 2023

  This one is a proper jawdropper. 

  It’s SO bad.

  I kinda liked the first Ant Man but this takes all of the series’ assets and bins them all. As soon as it went into godawful CGI world I lost interest. No imagination and some of the flattest cinematography I’ve seen yet from Marvel. The DOP was Bill Pope who did the fucking Matrix so this isn’t a lack of talent. Just a lack of ambition and drive.

  Bean 1997

  ★★★★½ Rewatched 12 Dec 2015 8

  A list of moments that made me laugh out loud:

  1) Mr Bean is on an aeroplane and tries to wake up someone by blowing up a used sick bag over a sleeping man.
  2) Mr Bean speeds up a theme park ride causing everyone to be thrown around like ragdolls.
  3) David: "Don't turkeys take 5 hours to cook?"
  Mr Bean: "Not necessarily."
  Cut to Mr Bean stuffing it into microwave.
  4) Mr Bean ruins a $50 million painting…
