gh’s review published on Letterboxd:
much more mystery-thrills, than horror vibe.
tension-filled, good for 90% of the runtime about 10-15 minutes overdone. not as memorable as the first film
& I have yet to see the 2nd
this 3rd entry delivers mid-level success —
the cinematography, atmospheric mood, character focus
are all great.
unfortunately, it lacks a defining fearful aspect.
as a horror film, it needed to be more scary —
as a mystery-thriller it achieves more success,
gripping you until the pre-conclusion.
(like I said, it’s 10-15 minutes too long)
Patrick Wilson & Vera Farmiga as Ed & Lorraine are what really cement The Conjuring franchise as something more than just a run of the mill horror franchise.
as long as these two are involved, i’ll always be interested.
