A tie-in watch as I work through Tarantino's 'Cinema Speculation' book. Quite brilliant; the car chase deserves its place in the action film pantheon and the expertly crafted tension was an unexpected delight on this first-time watch. Steve McQueen oozes charisma like nobody's business, of course.
One of those classic movies that always just kind of hovered around in my brain as an 'I'll get round to that someday' choice, it's kind of shameful really that I haven't done so till now, in my thirties.
Just makes me realize how many blind spots I still have from pre-1970 cinema. Love him or not, Tarantino is doing the lord's work in promoting the importance of these titles to new audiences.
