The Woman King is a triumph. Gina Prince-Bythewood crafts an emotional warrior epic for the ages that captures the rich history of the Agojie, an all-female warrior unit who protected the African kingdom of Dahomey in the 19th century, perfectly, while still leaving enough room for multiple unique, emotionally resonant storylines that gripped me from the opening scene. Viola Davis gives a career-best performance as Na with every performer enhanced by the powerful screenplay. I’m in love with every aspect of this rich history, one of the best movies this decade!
