mired down by its plethora of cardboard cutouts and extraneous threads, but cocaine bear ultimately delivers where it counts, featuring plenty of its titular beast. obviously, everything with the bear rules, and most of the action scenes are choreographed to satisfaction. needed more cocaine.

The Ballad of Fred Hersch 2016
sweet and gentle, if ultimately a bit mild on impact. an empathetic if slight portrait of a living jazz legend, with a thoughtful and fluid direction that mimics the improvisatory flow of its subject’s music. it’s rather slim in ambition, but it’s also just pleasantly kind enough in its intentions to hold one’s interest.
