"4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" has been on my radar for a while. I am trying to watch a movie from every country, and I would like to watch every Palme d'Or winner. I knew this movie was one that I would be watching because it is debatably the greatest example of Romanian cinema, and it won the 2007 Palme d'Or. But I have been purposefully putting it off because the subject matter is…

The Birth of a Nation is a movie that I don’t think that I can fairly rate. So I am going to just review it because I have never seen a movie that could legitimately be rated as ½ star but also be rated 5 stars. From an artistic perspective, The Birth of a Nation is a masterpiece. The Birth of a Nation utilized so many groundbreaking technical advancements that it literally revolutionized filmmaking.

    However,…

There are some sports stars that are bigger than the game they play. Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, and Serena Williams all come to mind. Growing up in rural Oklahoma in the 80s and 90s, there were two players that transcended baseball. Those two players were Ken Griffey Jr. and Nolan Ryan.

David Lynch is one of the greatest modern directors around, and I feel like Lynch really came into his own with this movie. I know he did a couple of films prior to this one. Eraserhead and The Elephant Man just don't have the Lynchian vibe to them to me, at least not entirely, and Dune was a project no one could truly do justice to. Due to studio interference, I don't think Lynch even got…

There are some anime films that are timeless classics. Movies like Akira, Spirited Away, and Perfect Blue are well-known even outside of anime circles. Ghost in the Shell is talked about in the same breath. And this reputation is well-earned.

The animation is top-notch and the themes are so interesting. The fundamental question of what makes a person a person is front and center of this film.

Ultimately, it is worth a watch. It isn't my favorite anime. But it is an excellent place to start for people looking to get into anime.
