Double Indemnity

Double Indemnity ★★★★½

I’ve yet to watch a Billy Wilder film that I didn’t immediately love. This one is sort of familiar, since I watched Body Heat last week. And while it’s not my absolute favorite Wilder film, it’s another of his that I know I’ll watch over and over again.

I really should have gotten into Wilder when I was younger. It’s just that there was no one around to enthusiastically recommend him to me like there were for other directors.

Fred MacMurray is great as the lead here, but the real standout for me was Edward G. Robinson, whom I was only familiar with as playing gangsters (thanks Bugs Bunny cartoons). He is absolutely fantastic as the tenacious claims adjuster Barton Keyes.
