"have i become boring?"

thomas vinterberg's another round is one of the most unique depictions of a midlife crisis i've ever seen on screen, and a sharp analysis of humans' relationship with alcohol. it shows that no amount of philosophy or reasoning can make an addict less addicted. is the alcohol making them happy, or is it the distraction from life? is the addiction ruining their lives, or was it already going downhill? moments of joy and creativity are combatted with moments of emptiness and loneliness, until they merge together and become inseparable from one another. but those final moments... that's ecstasy. and maybe it's momentary, but it's pure, electric joy. the best ending of the year in one of 2020's most fascinating films.
