    John Wick: Chapter 4

    ★★★★★

John Wick 4 redefines the language of action. When people talk about “visual poetry,” they can now reference this movie.
To me John Wick 4 is the perfect action film. The best Hollywood action film of all time? Quite possibly. I was giddy throughout and the film literally made me sweat.
Not only is the action incredible but it does so much more. It gives Donnie Yen the greatest performance of his career. It gives Scott Adkins the Vance to…

    The Ordeal

Calvaire doesn’t come near the legendary pantheon of extreme French horror. It’s shockingly dull and, bizarrely, not even remotely extreme.
I suppose you could call Calvaire a slow burn. But it’s a slow burn that doesn’t reward its audience with tension or terror. It’s just slow. When things did kick off, they’re mostly mundane. Yes, they can be classed as horror, but they’re far from exciting or even that horrific.

    Furies

    ★★★★

Furies is a good way to spend two hours. It’s a great little 90’s homage (on purpose? I’m not sure) that’s at times a gritty exploitation flick and at times Vietnam’s answer to Charlie’s Angels.

I’ll get the negatives out of the way first. There are at least two wonky tonal shifts in this film that left me perplexed. The most egregious is the training montage. I’ll admit, that really did take me out of the film. It’s bizarre. The only other…
