Its a basic revenge story done with absolutely no fun, its been given an arthouse veneer and lingers on its shocking moments, I wasn't entertained, I was quite bored, I found it disgusting in a non fun way, I found it to be considerably up itself, I really really didn't like it. I am dumbfounded by the hugely positive acclaim it received on release
The first time I saw this film I did think it genuinely terrible however with considerable time elapsed and no 3d to put up with, at home on Blu it is an impressive visual treat.

Making a film with obvious reference to Mr Terrence Malick is a dangerous thing as there has to be something else there not just plain imitation and this like Shotgun Stories succeeds as a homage to the great man and comes out as a really good film in its own right.
