Bad Times at the El Royale

Bad Times at the El Royale ★★★★

This was good! Nay, even great! Really, really enjoyed it. The cinematography is exceptional, probably the highlight of the film courtesy of DP Seamus McGarvey. Really slick. It is a bit Tarantino, but not too much, Goddard has his own style here. And the soundtrack is killer! So many groovy songs, which seems to be where Goddard is also showing off with his knack for music in addition to the visuals that make up this mystery thriller. The whole cast is superb. It's not as crazy or violent or as twisted as I expected, and thoroughly engaging for all 2 hours, 21 minutes. I think there's more going on in this than I'm picking up on my first viewing - smart ideas worked into the script. To borrow from another review, this could've easily been a mess but it's not, instead it's a helluva great film.
