Endless inspiration from the insanity that is this movie... it's been many years since my last watch, and it was like running into an old friend unexpectedly. I opted for the B&W version, as I think last time I watched the colorized one.
I forgot how much of the dialogue is incomprehensible because of the recordings/mix. And there are no subs on the MVD Blu-ray! But no matter, it's such a visual feast that any missed dialogue does not take away from the wild experience.
I wonder what made Allison Anders want to write and direct this story. It's cool to see Echo Park before it was so heavily and horribly gentrified, when it had a flavor and not just hipsters.
