Where the Crawdads Sing

Where the Crawdads Sing ★★★½

This movie is honestly a hard one to give a score to because it has a lot of great things going on with it but it also has a lot of smaller problems throughout that prevent this from being a masterpiece. I have also not read the book so my score may be higher then those who have read the book and that’s because everyone has a different perspective of the book while reading.

It’s definitely a fun watch because it is a whodunnit thriller film that takes place in a court room but edited with flashbacks of her life. Every time we get a flashback it does get a little confusing of her age because you don’t really see her grow up because one time she is a little kid the next she is a teenager to young adult. I understand it’s hard to show those transitions because you can’t just make an actor younger but it’s just makes it’s slightly confusing at times. The acting in this movie is great all around but the stand out is Daisy Edgar Jones who is fabulous in this film.

The cinematography is top notch as it captures the beautiful scenery of the marsh lands and the swamps in a way we have never really seen before. At times I did feel like it was too dark and the shading covering certain characters faces because of that really hides their emotions. Since it is a romance film we do get those typical cliche scenes and live stories we have seen before but if that doesn’t bother you definitely love this.

Overall Where The Crawdads Sing is a solid film that captures romance in a way that may shed a couple tears in the end but also have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out how he died and who did it. This is a must watch if you have read the book or just want to see Daisy Edgar Jones deliver a great performance.

Overall Score: 76/100
