THE BLOB (‘88) is so fantastic, as good as I remembered! Gruesome with some fabulously disgusting and inventive practical effects, a body horror feast that taps into our most primal fears, with the metaphor of the original smartly adapted to this new era. It’s so ruthless too. The first half is its strongest with the most vivid and outrageous imagery, as the blob grows in size and the film turns back into the kind ‘50s creature sci fi it pays tribute to it’s a bit less remarkable but still fun all the same.
