I think this franchise just isn't for me. Or I'm just jaded and desensitized as hell at this point in my horror junkie life.

Save for a couple of sequences, where I was more impressed by the gore effects rather than giving a care about what was happening, there's just no tension or novelty anymore. This film has saved my life twice. If I ever get even the smallest idea of suicide, I watch this, and it reminds me why life is worth living, and that putting your loved ones through unimaginable pain is something I can not do. It's deeply painful viewing, but also essential.

EDIT: 4 years since I wrote this, and still going strong. Thank you for the likes, love you all.

ANOTHER EDIT: 6 YEARS. come close. but still here. love all of you.

Having now read the script. Start preparing yourself. If you thought Hereditary was traumatic. Midsommar raises it to 100.

*star rating is for the screenplay. But this has so much potential to be a 5 star film.
