How can this glorious feminist western have been in existence for 66 years without me hearing about it?
Woman They Almost Lynched is so progressive for a fifties western, it’s a little bit insane. The border town has a female mayor. The women are easily the most vibrant characters. They have agency. Although the two leads start off as rivals, they soon team up to help each other out. The Bechdel Test is passed about fifty times over. It’s fantastic!
Surprising feminism aside, Woman They Almost Lynched is a great movie anyway; pacy and exciting, with some creative fight choreography. This really belongs in the canon, not as some novelty that you stumble across on a rainy afternoon.
