  it’s possible I only feel this way because I just watched the entire series in a 24 hour period, but i’m pretty sure that trinity & neo flying above the machines, the smoke, the lightening & the darkness to see the clear, blue sky for one brief, glorious moment is one of the most transcendent moments in movies

  downright refreshing to see a planned-for-years third installment in a major studio franchise that's not just a series of buttons on narrative beats or paid-off teases, not just a setup-and-release joybuzzer that's a commercial for itself. the narrative, structural and thematic rhymes -- even down to individual compositions -- with the first film are too numerous to count. plus there's the Battle of Zion, about 35 minutes smack in the center that's certainly among the longest and has to be among the most dazzling sequences of the CGI era. Hugo Weaving's scary evil mastermind laugh forever.

  An end to a cycle and the beginning of a new one. A coda that breathlessly, tirelessly fights for a victory, even if it's doomed to repeat once more. Revolutions offers a few ground-rules and then it's all climax, as showy and confident as they come. The seeds of Speed Racer are definitely here, with the grandiose battle compositions and the unabashed arcs of heroism given new life through diversity and fearlessness, and the structure is so radical - essentially a more successful version of The Battle of the Five Armies. The Wachowski sisters are as imaginative and inspiring as the works they construct; beaming with possiblity and ingenuity.

  This guy I knew in eighth/ninth grade Paul who used to shout “HADOUKEN” in class said this was the best movie he’d ever seen and then promptly switched schools. I assume it was unrelated but I always sort of believed it was to avoid dealing with the consequences of saying that.

  90% of this movie is forgettable filler CGI action scenes. The scenes that aren't this don't live up to the original. The oracle isn't as interesting. Agent Smith feels less threatening despite being more powerful. Morpheus has nothing to do. Neo and Trinity's character arcs feel incomplete.
