"Sprawling."
That's the best one-word description I can come up with to cover this rich, empowering and thoroughly entertaining Italian epic 'coming of age' tale. I say coming of age, in the sense of a couple of Italian brothers who are young adults when we meet them, but their lives then grow, twist and turn over the four decades in which the film is based.
With family, love, passion, loss and desperation being a few of the key emotions served up in this six-hour spectacular, there really is something for everyone. Unfortunately, I'd think the scary looking 366-minute runtime will put many off and this is a real shame, as I was entirely hooked from about twenty minutes in, when…
