  (aka "Shame, Actually"): it ain't high art, but this surprising portrait of sex addiction and solidarity is honest to the bone and ultimately even beautiful. it hits all of the expected beats in a vaguely schticky way, but does so with grace, helped enormously by a well-tuned cast that includes an effective josh gad (there's a first time for everything) a brusque tim robbins (toning down his Mystic River affectation into something that resembles an actual human being) and... most strangely of all... Pink, who does what's required of her and then some. and i guess it's fitting that i continue to find gwyneth paltrow to be cute as hell despite how much that makes me hate myself.

  Two quotes from Tim Robbins that got me: 

  “This disease [sex addiction] is like trying to quit crack when the pipe is still attached to your body.” 

  “Feelings are like kids: you don’t want them driving the car but you don’t want them stuffed in the trunk either.” 

  Decided to throw this on the tv on a quiet cloudy day. Seemed like a breezy movie and the right choice. My mistake was not reading the synopsis beforehand and having no idea to expect such a horny movie. 

  But alas it was still a solid movie. Not really that relatable for me but enjoyable nonetheless. Ruffalo, Paltrow, Robbins. Didn’t really go wrong with that crew. And Josh Gad also chipped in a surprisingly solid supporting performance too. While I may not have ever watched this had I known the synopsis beforehand, I’m glad I gave this a try.

  A romantic comedy about three sex addicts(Mark Ruffalo, Tim Robbins, Josh Gad)? Much more drama than comedy, The Hulk who is 5 years sex free falls in love with Pepper Potts(Iron Man was nowhere to be found), The general in Green Lantern has an alcohol and sex problem but has been sober for 15 years, while Olaf from Frozen is in the worst shape...sex free for 6 hours. Three of them try and survive each day as the struggle with their illness. First half is way better than the second...Josh Gad a poor man's Jack Black steals the show. An uneven but interesting movie.

  I was surprised by this random movie that I stumbled across on Netflix. Obviously, I'm going to check out anything with Mark Ruffalo. In fact the film is filled with stars too numerous to mention. I was surprised by the deft writing, the humor, and how it addressed difficult subject matter (particularly addiction and dysfunctional families).

  -Salmon meal suggested
  -Grilled grasshoppers
  -Man (Josh Gad) eating whole chicken

  Decent performances, decent production value and decent directing don't add up to much when you're film about addiction has no consequences for it's main character if he falls off the wagon. Mark Ruffalo is Adam, a very successful professional (his character is so bland I don't even remember what he does) New Yorker who is a 5 year sober sex addict. The problem is that if he strays and goes back to his old ways for even an entire weekend it has no effect on his life. As long as he reigns himself back in life goes back to normal by Monday. So what's the point?

  Not entirely sure how this ended up on my HBO watchlist but it fits this funnyish, melancholyish, humane tone I find very comforting. It's easy to dunk on this, but I think it's actually quite honest about the topic of addiction. Gets pretty dark! The friendship between Pink and Josh Gad is heartwarming?!
