5 stars for the crowd at Fantasia getting even the smallest, dumbest jokes and Easter eggs scattered throughout the movie to keep us amused.
Seeing it with this crowd confirmed a lot of thoughts I had since this was only the 3rd time I’d seen it with an audience on the big screen and only makes me so proud of every artist in those credits on both sides of the screen that busted their buttflesh for the cause to bring our weird vision to warped life …
For filmmakers, I highly suggest “test screening” your film with this amazing Fantasia crowd it REALLY helps.
So yeah, I dig our movie, warts and all…what can you do? 🤷♂️

I'm so glad I made time to return to the Tribeca Film Festival so that I could see this with Andrew and the rest of the Friday night crowd! Barbara Crampton is a hero of mine.
There's a retroactive side to that. For me, as a repressed teenager, every woman who excited me became (if only briefly) my greatest hero. Day after day would go by without my being entirely reconciled to my own desiring nature, and then something would happen that made it undeniable. I saw Stuart Gordon's From Beyond at an impressionable age that guaranteed I would remember Barbara Crampton's character, Dr. Katherine McMichaels, for the rest of my corporeal life. I feel I was not objective in my previous review of this film.
When I went into the theater I sat down expecting an intricate psychological horror ripe with ambiguity A24 style a-la It Comes At Night.
That was not what this film was. I think my complete lack of synergy between what I was expecting and what I saw lead to my over-the-top reaction.
I realize now that I confused the film not being what I thought it would be, as it being bad. Which is just a naive way to think.

Hands down my favorite from Fantasia Film Festival this year
It was paired with Jacob Chase's extremely effective horror short, Mister Blur, which unfortunately is not on Letterboxd yet BUT IT'S AWESOME AND YOU NEED TO SEE IT.
Suitable Flesh is fun, horny, gory, funny. I love that Heather Graham was a part of this. It's like a love letter to Stuart Gordon fans. I had an absolute blast.

Fuck yeah non-binary murder demon ghost and Eddie the himbo house bunny!!!! Heather Graham!!! Fun schlock! If you don’t like re-animator, showgirls, or deliberately silly nonsense this isn’t for you but it’s a great like 3am tv movie blockbuster type experience
I stupidly forgot what a great screen presence Heather Graham is and how her charisma is golden. I have always enjoyed Joe Lynch’s work but when you add in Gordon, Yuzna and Lovecraft with cleverly crafted homage and a fun script that initially presents a lifetime movie going off the rails quickly, it’s hard not to just enjoy each moment this movie throws at you.
things i liked:
-judah lewis! he is so incredible! i have believed in him since the babysitter! can’t wait to watch him in more things… my scream king
-heather graham! what a fun lady
-the queer undertones (nearly unavoidable in horror films about the body)
-a certain sequence… involving a rear view camera… iykyk

-the editing… like throughout the whole entire thing…
-further on the editing, perhaps the movie’s point wasn’t so much to be “scary” but i do wish the possession sequences had been done differently—the frantic saw-like editing got tired after a while and it would have been so much more effective if the possession was quiet and snuck up on you…
