Literature graduate Wyman Chan (funny: Chapman To) accidentally becomes an adult movie star in this CAT III sex comedy. NAKED AMBITION 3D is a parody of the Japanese AV (adult videos) industry, and seeing this film in 3D definitely adds to the excitement (if you know what I mean). Towards the end the movie tries too hard to keep its rhythm, plus it's getting way too silly in places. However, director Lee Kung-Lok adds a nice twist to the gender dynamics in the adult film industry, while some of the situations and montages are genuinely hilarious.

A comedy about the Japanese porn industry? Hell yeah, I'm fucking there.
Naked Ambition 3D is about a bunch of Hong Kong guys going to Japan to start their own JAV (Japanese Adult Video) company and the protagonist becomes the new #1 JAV star against his will.
There is some good humor in there with for example reversed gender stereotypes and playing up JAV tropes. The dialog is really good at points too. I genuinely laughed out loud a bunch of times.
The humor goes from clever and charming to overdone and stupid a lot though.
Unfortunately there is still a lot lacking. The drama is halfbaked…
Got this from Bad Panda Shop expecting a Porky’s type sex comedy, just poor excuses for boobs on screen with terrible jokes in 3D. When I opened up the parcel, the cover looked way more like a serious softcore drama (not the poster here) and was disappointed. What I got instead after watching was neither a Porky’s nor a softcore. It’s closer to a sex comedy I guess, even though there are few jokes, just the paper thin plot, but Naked Ambition 3D has some famous JAV idols to set it apart from your average boner bash / dramedy. It’s not particularly funny, and many, many scenes are not meant to be sexy, so what saves this from being the most boring film…

The first 3D film at NYAFF had to have boobs. Lots of boobs. But this was not just a sex movie. Yes, there was limited plot, a manic pixie dream girl that wasn't, and entirely too many body fluids, BUT! You can't beat Chapman To at his own game no matter how many AV actors and actresses you throw into the film. And that man is hysterically funny. Add in a priceless cameo-slash-rival appearance by Producer Louis Koo, and you pretty much have to scrape me off the floor at the end. I laughed myself stupid. Watch this if you loved VULGARIA.
So, so bad, so, so dumb, but honestly I can't say it wasn't fairly entertaining.
What was up with that half-Russian girl's sunflower boobs? I was lost on that bit entirely.
