i want to meet a girl and fall in love and eat sweets from around her neck... i want to make purple promises and give forehead kisses and bask in the sun... so beautiful and lovely and everything that i could have ever wanted from a story about what it means to be young and sapphic and learning to love the world
"now is the time to explore who you really are. play, experiment, be colourful and messy and free"
what a lovely little film oh my god!!! it really warmed my heart. it shows the innocence of young, sapphic love while also showing what loss and trauma at a young age can look like. it was quite a slow film but I wasn't bored for one second. the kissing scene might be the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life and it actually made me cry. I loved the acting and the chemistry as well, these young actresses did a wonderful job.
it's rare to see queer love stories like this, so this just felt really special. I wish I had seen something like this when I was younger. more films like this please!
finding a film that has no male gaze is very difficult, and my first summer does it. young queer stories are never told, especially not in such a warm, innocent light. they are so fucking young and dumb and clueless but very much falling in love. i think these stories are seldom told because people find it hard to understand that queer people fall in love like anyone else -- it's so normal yet so taboo. many queer people grow up either repressing or suppressing this part of their identity, thus we never get to experience young love like this. something so sweet and intimate. i hope there are young queer girls out there who come to watch this with a better understanding of the world and themselves, something i wish i had.
she has a picture of cate blanchett on her wall. as a lesbian, i've never felt more represented.
imagining if 14 year old me had films like this to watch instead of blue is the warmest colour lol
