literally the only bad thing about this is having to tell locals that my favorite film is called "mommy"
"Born to Die," like...
born to Die,
like Die, the character.
he was born to her;
he is her son.
get it? get it!?
(this is me deflecting my pain)
This is hardly going to be a review, because I don't think that I could ever review a film so deeply intertwined with my own life, so personal that it would be impossible to compare it to any other film. The behavioral problems, the treatment facilities, the absence of a father, the undying love of a mother; it's all a bit too intimate for me to even attempt to look at from an objective standpoint (not that objectivity is ever something to be associated with cinema, haha). So here's my warning: what you're about to read is going to be more of a diary entry than a review, and if I'm going to be honest, it's because I need it.…

Sometimes I watch a movie and from the first few minutes can tell it's going to be some shit that I'll love. This was one of them. Matter fact, just by looking at the poster and knowing the synopsis, I knew this would be up my alley. Within the first few minutes you know how this film is going to look, how it's going to sound, how it's going to feel, and this tone stays beautifully consistent throughout the duration, gradually intensifying into one satisfying ass ending. I loved 'Mommy' a lot if you can't tell. Each scene is perfectly crafted and uses every aspect of filmmaking in such exciting ways. I am so happy I ended my 100 Summer Movies with this one.

Rarely do films make me feel this way. I treasure these cinematic experiences, films so full of life and beauty that they speak to the deepest depths of the soul. I feel like I'm soaring, flying through the fluffiest clouds of silver screen ecstasy. The performances, the direction, the rawness, the intimacy, the aspect ratio, the soundtrack; Mommy pummeled me with its feverish personality and its headstrong passion. Xavier Dolan should be immensely proud of what he's accomplished here, as it's a film of indescribable tenderness and blossoming rage.
Cinema has been chained to convention for far too long. The blockbusters and the Oscar-bait films of today have been weighing down artists who are desperately reaching for the stars…
i think the scene that ultimately made this my Favorite Movie Ever was steve’s first morning home; how die doesn’t knock but claims she did; how she pulls out the makeshift curtain he pinned the day before; how she picks up all his used tissues and makes him take off his underwear, all while having an argument that’s loud but unsurprisingly unorthodox; routine, almost. the two of them are such strong personalities you wouldn’t expect their relationship to work, but somehow, it does - their idiosyncrasies are in sync; their messy attempts at affection mesh together.
i also love how a lot of xavier dolan's films are centered on complicated relationships with mothers, as if he’s trying to say something…
One of my new favorite movies
of all-time. Top ten. Maybe five.
Rarely am I able to relate to a film
on such a level. Breathtaking.
Really good movie. Some part were kinda boring but anyways amazing performances, especially by Antoine-Oliver Pilon.

RIP Freud you would’ve loved Mommy.
(I needed to make a mommy joke but I can’t ignore how good this film was. The music used is kinda corny and I don’t see how this barely “dystopian” setting is necessary but in its own fucked up way it is a beautiful film. It gets a little bit weird at times but I guess the discomfort from that fits with the way the characters are portrayed. The last part becomes even more of an emotional rollercoaster and I did not expect to be crying by the end.)
jenius sekali ya xavier dolan. mengharukan, menggemaskan, emosi bercampur aduk, gila itu aspect ratio bikin lega pas dibuka sama steven. gila ga aspect ratio dibuka? gila.
Such an emotional roller coaster, with one of the BEST soundtracks imo. Starts off with some good old dido, then to some classic Vivaldi. Ending the movie with our daddy issue anthem: borne to die
elle l’aimait, mais elle a pas pu le sauver..car l’amour n’a rien à voir là-dedans,malheureusement...🥲🤚
