Apparently you can't review ongoing shows so I'll talk about the first season here.
I'm a huge Dark fan and I love what these two (Baran and Jantje) are able to put together, but I had a lot of doubts about this show. I was scared it was gonna be too reminiscent of the aforementioned series, I doubted these new characters were gonna stick as much as the ones in Dark did, but none of those doubts came to fruition. I mean you can definitely tell these are the same people working behind it. Same visual style, similar music score, characters unveiling the truth about a time-space loop they're stuck in (this is not a spoiler, it was seen in…
I absolutely LOVE multilingual characters/stories and this is IT!!!!!!!! The cast killed it!!! Baran and Jantje are so phenomenal storytellers! I loved Dark and was really looking forward to this show! Now I gotta wait a year or more for season two 😭
(This is a rating for the show + the making of)
Olek e Ling Yi meus protegidos 💗
Great behing the scenes. The Volume technology looks revolutionary for filmmaking.
Mind-blowing first season. Great score, atmosphere, acting, story and characters. Wasn't too sure it would turn out great towards the middle because it litterally became something else but by the last episode I was satisfied overall.
Great subtext: even though there's a language and culture barrier, we're all on the same boat.
So many unanswered questions I hope it gets a second season! 8/10 for the first season.
Not a review of The Making of 1899…
Since 1899 (Netflix 8 Part series) isn’t on here, I figured I would use this entry to say…
Holy hell I loved this.
One suggestion (though it could be different for you based on your preferences)… I went into the language settings on the shows page and changed it from “English Dubbed” (the default setting) to “English Original”.
This series has a multinational cast and the language barrier is an important element of the show. Especially early on. Setting it to English Original got rid of the distracting dubbed voices and enabled subtitles when they are appropriate. It made the show a better viewing experience for me.
Great cast. Mind bending mystery.…
how the fuck is everyone involved in this show so talented and also i NEED to be friends with every single person on set so bad
1899 was good crazy series on Netflix the last episode left on cliffhanger hope it season 2
The second series to use the Volume, after being pioneered by the Mandalorian. Probably going to see it being used more after seeing how much realism and immersion it can bring onto a sound stage. Like other 'Making Of' documentaries, it's nice to see the effort put into the craft of 1899, from the set design, to the costumes, to the audio, and the synergy created among the cast and crew. Bo and Jantje said they were more traditional film makers, and you can see how they retain the love of that while embracing new technology.
