This was a little more emotional for me to watch than I thought it was gonna be. It hits close to home, though not entirely for me, I was very young when my parents got divorced. But I watched this thinking of my sister; she was a little older than Billy is in this, and it puts things into perspective for sure. I loved Marriage Story, but this gave me a different kind of response I didn’t expect. I’m not sure what the difference in the films are that made that happen yet.
The performances in this are incredible; even the child actor was great. This is written in a very grounded, genuine way, yet it also makes it seem like it’s something so personal and intimate that it can’t possibly happen often. It’s so good because this isn’t such a groundbreaking concept, but the way it’s portrayed is. Definitely stands the test of time.
