I think this is better than Raiders. No, it is. It definitely is. I think a really interesting part of this film is how well it shows Indy’s weaknesses and how he contradicts himself all the time. I think you actually see a real change in character from beginning to end with this one while remaining incredibly entertaining. The theme for this one will also always find a way to creep it’s way into my mind and stay there for days. There’s always that dumb debate that’s like “STAR WARS vs. INDIANA JONES” and movies like this remind me that the winner is so damn obvious.
Glamorizes archaeology, anti-fascism, Judeo-Christian myth, dads, murder, and blimps.
This movie is Raiders, but better in like, every way. It's exciting, it's super funny, you buy the emotional connection between Indy and his dad, the villains are great, the action is superb, Marcus Brody is such an endlessly entertaining buffoon. Just watch this movie if you enjoy fun. It's the best Indiana Jones movie and one of the best Spielberg movies.

The first one did Exodus, and the trilogy is completed by weaving in The New Testament and Jesus Christ into the American mythology about defeating the Nazis. Also, after playing nothing but alpha tough guys for most of his career, Connery is great here as an academic history nerd who is also eskimo brothers with his son.
Steven Spielberg’s funniest movie. (In 1989, I did not get the joke of Sean Connery playing a bumbler who constantly makes things worse for Indy.)
