Damn, Bergman! A fantastic foray into horror, which is unsurprising considering much of his work during this 60s era. Supernatural, surreal, highly expressive. Liv Ullmann and Max Von Sydow are expectedly fantastic. The camera does some wild things here, the result is a deeply unsettling, anxiety-ridden nightmare that may or may not be real.
I'm not sure I understood this movie completely; it's one of his most overtly cryptic films. There are some themes about guilt, mental illness, love, fandom, artistry, infidelity, etc.
Truly bizarre stuff, but an absolute treat!
