A group of suppressed women from a village in Gujarat find someone in the desert and their lives are changed forever.
In 9th, we had a chapter on Russian Revolution and it said that the easiest way to demand surrender from an annexed land is to ban their language. A man who has to learn a new language, be stranded from his own, will always have a broken will. Folk language, music and dance are so important to existence.
This movie is about claiming a dance form. It's amazing how you just know that this belongs to you and then you go ahead and get it. Beautifully shot, had some of the best dialogues I have heard, choreography was spectacular, and a brilliant story to back it.
Their claps & the sound of that dhol will make our hearts shake not just because they were reverbing an ordinary sound, but it will strike our hearts with so much pain and words that remained silent for many centuries.
The traditional dance form - Garba, was so dynamically & ironically portrayed. The representation of a solid & blind patriarchal society was very excellently acted in this movie, with much more strong acting by the female protagonists. The story was set up in such a way that viewers would feel a whole tale of suppression, pain, agony, rebellion, fightback, etc.
I have no doubt that this movie for winning so many accolades and hearts. Deserved it.
The film deals with how women's were treated back in the 70s in some villages of some regions in India.
The movie has flaws, BLARING FLAWS.
But it's message and the magical ending (which is honestly one of the most powerful sequence I've came across this month) was ground breaking. I almost teared up, had goosebumps by the time it ended.
I can point out major flaws that the film has, but honestly I don't feel like doing that,I JUST DON'T KNOW WHY.
And that's not because I don't want to critique a film which promotes feminism or women empowerment. I just don't feel like doing that.
It's really such a beautiful film and such a passionate effort to create a change amongst everybody that I just can't.
Beautiful! A simple story told in a powerful way, dialogues that hit you hard and incredible music with great performances and beautiful cinematography.
To hell with patriarchy.
(Now, i feel obligated to watch all these regional movies and honestly it's worth it.)
One of the few movies which had deeply overwhelmed me with indescribable feelings and has an enormous impact on me emotionally.
A very powerful and beautiful film.
If you haven't watch it just go and wath this gem ASAP.❤️❤️
A movie with depth of emotions....it's about the freedom to live fearlessly, presented in a beautiful way.
How did they know the choreography if they've never danced before?
Jokes aside this was a really good film. A group of women in a patriarchal village find liberation in dancing garba (a form of folk dance) where dancing is a privilege only for the menfolk. The story is as simple as that. So much pain and suffering has been endured by Indian women and this is just a sliver of one chapter. Great acting, great camera work, great music but it took some cinematic liberties and predictableness. But still I thoughroughly enjoyed this. The context maybe difficult to understand for non-Indian viewers but I recommend this to anyone interested.
This is what I don’t like about main stream movies.. almost every gujju movie ends on a happy note where everything is settled and sorted!! Why can’t you portray the reality???
I belong to kutch district.. and there’s this place in kutch called vrajvani where this whole thing happened and the ending is not the same!!
Please read this story before watching the movie
an Ahir man took to play the dhol and the Ahir women, some 140 of them, started dancing on the rhythm. This performance went on and on, with neither the dholi giving up nor the dancers. It was like they were recreating the Raasleela of Krishna and Gopis. It is said that the women kept dancing…
