  Just like Premam, Gold too is an interesting lesson on editing and filmmaking in general. If Premam taught us how to let go, Gold teaches us when to stop.

  There are certain kind of movies that you keep trying to fall in love with right from the starting moment, but it just keeps making it hard n hard with each passing scene. Gold is just that. It was never about the story, but what fails it the most is the uninterestingly dry narrative. It does unfold and expand its character world quite well, but the process is way too tedious. Though it manages to provide some occasional good laughs here n there, most of the quirks misfire. If at all anything did excite, it was the creative blend of editing n music. The run to the end was better than rest. However, on the whole it ends up a strictly average watch.

  This feels like Alphonse trying to emulate what he did in premam and neram but fails miserably. This is frustratingly long, pointless, cringey and not fun at all. Itu ento adiyam 4 manikoor ind enu paranj, 3 masam engandu edutu vettikurachu indakiya 2 hr 45min mothal anu enu orkumbol anu... Sanam feels like a covid film with like 4 locations total enitum ingerku itu evidunu 4 manikoor footage kittiyenanu, pulli mikyavarum aa neram kondu aluvayilea full palliyum pattayum document cheytindavum. Editing oke oru mess anu, sanam premavum technically style over substance oke anu but that had a charm to it, itu chumma over ayi chalam ayi. Editing choices…

  There are only 2 things that i hate about Gold (2022).Prithviraj being casted instead of Nivin pauly and the ending. Gold for me is the most goofy ass movie that had a goofy ass plot and goofy ass characters with a not so goofy ass climax. Alphonse puthren did exactly what he wanted to do with it and i loved it. I don’t understand why it’s so overlooked. I mean i understand the frustration of people who went in expecting a premamaesque movie. At this point, puthren has a clear disregard for the audience. He doesn’t care. Man just loves to play around with his cam doing the same stuff again and again? Am i tired of his gimmicks? never getting tired of his gimmicks.

  Gold is conceived as a middle-class male's daydream. Time expands and contracts as Joshi experiences it, clocks stop for him when he is fighting the bad guys, and those who hinder his plans are all pretty ridiculous. His mom's characterization (before you write essays on the matter, know that they're aware of it and they acknowledge it) and Nayanthara's casting in that tiny cameo of a role, are perfectly in sync with this narrative logic. Speaking of the lady superstar, who would have guessed that she'd have zero combination scenes with Prithvi in this (except for a phonecall)? Expectations, be damned!

  The film's main thread is reminiscent of Sam Raimi's A Simple Plan (a title that would work for this…

  Premam > Neram >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gold

  It’s blasphemous to even mention this along with the two quintessential new-gen films of the last decade in one line, but still.

  Too tired to rant right now. The main thread is good. But the writing is all over the place and the pacing is painstakingly sluggish. For a hyperlink narrative to work, it’s very much essential that most or all of its individual threads are compelling enough on their own, supported by interesting characters, and, most importantly, bound together by an air-tight plot. And, this is exactly where Gold fails gloriously. None of the characters, except Joshi (Prithviraj), are diverting enough. All the side-tracks felt forced, uninspired, and aren’t even memorable, if taken standalone. To top it…
