When an office full of New York City real estate salesmen is given the news that all but the top two will be fired at the end of the week, the atmosphere begins to heat up. Shelley Levene, who has a sick daughter, does everything in his power to get better leads from his boss, John Williamson, but to no avail. When his coworker Dave Moss comes up with a plan to steal the leads, things get complicated for the tough-talking salesmen.

Five minutes into this film and there is so much awesomeness on the screen that it's almost overwhelming. Boasting a breathtaking ensemble of Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Alan Arkin & Jonathan Pryce, all brilliantly introduced in the opening moments, Glengarry Glen Ross is an acting powerhouse but what makes it even better is its deftly written script & excellent direction.
The story concerns four real estate salesmen working for Mitch & Murray who are berated by the very person their superiors sent to motivate them, and learn that they have limited time to close the deals or else they are fired. Second time through and just as enjoyable as the first. First-rate cast, first-rate dialogue. Feels like a modernized Death of a Salesman, with matching commentary on working class life ("we work too hard"), on shifting power structures (the young managing the old), and on the emotional economics of capitalism (subjection vs satisfaction). I didn't remember the characters being so consistently foul-mouthed, and this time through was slightly distracted by the film's heavy reliance on vulgarity. Nonetheless, this is an absolutely captivating film recommended to anyone who loves great actors, great characters, or great dialogue. It's amazing how a film focused exclusively on people talking can be so engrossing.
Watching Jack Lemmon’s wrenching performance and chuckling to myself just a little as I remember Nick Mullen’s “Tiny Dick Salesman” bit.
