  "Yours is a story with a happy ending, Ms. Collins. People love happy endings."

  One of the maestro's finest, even if at times it feels so jam packed with ideas that it almost becomes exhausting. Firstly, it's the great Los Angeles film, a city of glitz, glamour, police brutality, covered-up scandals, and where the possibility of questioning something is barely even a consideration. The police's only concern is preserving their image, because they are aware that the images are becoming dominant, thus they must be manipulated. This is achieved by them as early as the moment Christine meets the fake Walter; they have her surrounded by press and immediately photograph them together, to secure the proof and turn the lie…

  Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling” imbues the genres of courtroom film and detective drama with an urgent feminism. The combination wrenches pathos and power from its true life tale, and from the deep talents of its lead actress. 

  “Changeling” is based off a series of child abductions that took place in 1920s California. Angelina Jolie assumes the role of a mother institutionalized after claiming police had recovered and returned to her a boy who was not her own son. 

  Similar to “White Hunter Black Heart,” Eastwood takes the trappings of one straight story, and adorns them with associations of sociopolitical depth. “Hunter” was not just about a film shoot, and “Changeling” is not only about a missing persons case.

  Sapped of color, sapped of soul, built along a clumsy narrative path that gives more attention to the men surrounding Christine Collins, letting them tell us how inspired they are by her, without actually showing us her fighting spirit beyond histrionic outbursts. This is bourgeois "feminism," avoiding any real indictment of the misogynistic system in favor of individualistic bullshit seeking to redeem the system and the men in it. They show you the system scapegoating, then double-down on it within the narrative. It's a neat bit of cinematic prestidigitation, trying to guide you with statements providing a false sense of empowerment, all the while silencing the central character in favor of these cut-jawed machos, sniveling psychopaths, and moral demagogues.

  You're better off watching the BuzzFeed Unsolved episode on this, and that's saying a lot.

  Changeling is based on a true and infuriating story of indifference and incompetence. It begins with a woman’s personal tragedy before it devolves into a larger conspiracy that involves serial murders and the futile attempts of a police force to save face at the expense of truth.

  Christine Collins’ world crumbles when her 9-year-old son disappears. Her concerns are shrugged off from the very beginning. Standard procedure, they say.   Truly impressed and floored at Eastwood’s ability to dissect the layers of strength within the fragility of femininity while delivering such a strong, devastating story with a unique sense of catharsis. The execution is grueling and dark yet retains a feeling of hopefulness throughout that allows the audience to become intrigued without getting overwhelmed. Angelina Jolie carries the story with vehemence and is able to showcase a vast array of intense emotions that are entirely believable due to the given situations and inherent mental state that her character is possessing. It’s so nice when you expect a film to be bland and uninteresting but it ends up being captivating.

  we wonder how this story can be real..
  we see the love of a mother, the hope, the fight of a woman who would do anything for her child ...
  If you want to be surprised by a true story or just to a film I recommend you this movie ;

  it may be carrying too much water for Clint to suggest that the seemingly overstuffed and disorganized structure, sprawling out here into multiple redundant narratives (and sort of hopping genres too), is less a mark of his alleged "shoot-the-first-draft" laziness and more an attempt to mirror Jolie's desperate mother character's exhaustion of every last possible thread looking for her son. but i went and did it anyway.
