Holy shit! BLIND SPOT is amazing! A 100 min - one take - agonizing tour de force. From the pinnacle of mundanity it plunges into the deepest pit of trauma. Whatever the polar opposite of a joyride is - this is it. In all its visceral unpleasantness.
It is a triumph threefold: the best new film I've seen in years, the best single-take film (of the few I've actually seen), and the best Norwegian film - by a wide margin!
No film has made me cry as quickly and often since MANCHESTER BY THE SEA. The big difference is BLINDSPOT doesn't really let up ever. I'm pretty sure I sat clenched for over an hour.
Remember with CAPTAIN PHILLIPS back…

Fucking train wreck of emotions, one of the most powerful films in a long time. These type of films can be very different experiences as it relies on feelings and how exposed you are to them. I couldn’t stop crying after the first 20 minutes but I also heard people laughing when it was over (probably not to the film but still, I felt like I couldn’t do anything after it was over, bad day for double screening). It is hard for me to analyse this film so I’ll just put out few thoughts I was able to come up in the evening.
The acting carries this film and Pia Tjelta just fucking kept that scene…
Makes surprisingly good use of the one-shot gimmick by de-emphasizing the formal aspects of its visual construction. It took me a while to embrace this gambit, but it really feels like the film earns the right not to edit. The usual counterarguments against the idea of the extended shot being tense and immersive are that the same effects can be achieved by editing, and without having to worry about all the choreography and without limiting the kind of visual storytelling you can do. I mostly agree with this, hence the initial skepticism, but what I found compelling about this instance is that (after the slow opening 10-15 minutes) I was constantly desperate for a cut, any cut, just to get…
So while there are undoubtedly some sequences that will stick with you long after the credits roll, those pieces are stronger than the whole. There's a bona fide winner of a forty-minute short here that's been expanded for an admittedly awesome cinematic technique rather than because it could carry the extra weight.

The most emotionally affecting film I've seen in a long time. Novotny finds a purpose to a single take film, following crisis and grief in real time.
