Much lighter in touch than Skyfall's bloat (despite the rather unnecessary running time) and this second time around Mendes has a better sense about how to use his rather shallow decorative skills in the service of the film. A few pretty good action set-pieces and better than average for the series spy plot (even if the amount of unearned mystery around Waltz is ridiculous and so bad current Hollywood). Solid supporting cast is put to good use. The whole reboot remains rather misbogotten in concept, but this is good step towards a corrective.
